You're Not Broken, You're Burned Out
If you've been running on empty lately — going through the motions, snapping at people you love, dreading things you used to enjoy — you're not broken, and you're not lacking faith. You might just be burned out.
The World Health Organization actually has a name for what you're feeling: it's a syndrome that comes from chronic stress that hasn't had a chance to be properly managed — exhaustion, a growing distance from things that used to matter to you, and a nagging feeling that nothing you do is enough. Sound familiar?
Here's what I want you to hear: this isn't a character flaw. Researchers are clear that burnout comes from what's happening around you, not a weakness in you. Two out of three workers are dealing with this right now — so if you've been feeling this way, you are deeply, statistically not alone.
And if you're a Black woman reading this, I see you carrying extra weight that doesn't always show up in the average survey — added layers of stress that come from navigating spaces that weren't always built with you in mind.
A prayer for today:
Lord, I'm tired in a way that sleep doesn't seem to fix. Show me where I've been carrying more than You ever asked me to carry alone. Help me see rest as worship, not failure — and give me the courage to ask for help when I need it. Amen.
So here's your gentle nudge: rest isn't quitting on your purpose. Talking to a therapist isn't quitting on your faith. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is admit you need help carrying this.
